Saint John, NB (June 6, 2019) – Top cannabis researchers and scientists will meet in Saint John on June 16 ahead of the World Cannabis Congress (WCC) to exchange critical research findings of interest to the international cannabis industry. This marks the first such opportunity since the legalization of recreational cannabis in Atlantic Canada and the beginning of what will become a global cannabis research network based in New Brunswick.
Supported by New Brunswick’s lead economic development agency Opportunities New Brunswick, the event will host researchers from the University of New Brunswick, Université de Moncton, Research and Productivity Council (RPC; Canada’s largest cannabis research group) who will discuss emerging opportunities and advances.
“Cannabis is a key sector in New Brunswick and we are happy to support the exchange of important ideas and research,” says Stephen Lund, CEO of Opportunities New Brunswick. “New Brunswick is home to a strong and fast-growing cannabis cluster that includes world-class producers, suppliers and R&D and innovation companies. Working together, we can encourage this industry to grow.”
New Brunswick has been recognized as a jurisdiction that is supportive of the cannabis industry, and has been successful in recruiting a variety of industry leaders to operate in the province.
Providing a global perspective Dr. Suzanne Sisley, the only FDA approved cannabis researcher in the world and member of the Nevada ILAC Medical Cannabis Commission, will be presenting along with Dr. Jeffrey Chen, Founder and Director of UCLA’s Cannabis Research Initiative among others. Together, the group will seek ways to overcome disparate and strictly-regulated cannabis research and clinical trials that can impede the ability to study, share and leverage medical advancements.
“We are thrilled to partner with leaders like ONB,” says Derek Riedle, Publisher of Civilized. “We consistently seek opportunities to foster collaboration and create platforms that will put cannabis on the main stage.”
The research event is part of the second-annual World Cannabis Congress, presented by Civilized, which is renowned for convening major influencers, thought leaders, policy makers and government officials to help shape and advance the cannabis industry worldwide.
