Saint John, NB (June 17, 2019) – Uptown Saint John is bustling today as 650 of the world’s top cannabis executives convene in the Port City for the second annual World Cannabis Congress (WCC), presented by Civilized. Delegates from over 14 countries and five continents are represented, drawn by the event’s exclusive and influential guest list, A-List speakers like lifestyle icon Martha Stewart, and the unique charm and hospitality of Saint John.
Known as the intimate event where big things happen, WCC officially launched today with an exclusive appearance by Shoppers Drug Mart. Ken Weisbrod, VP of Pharmacy Business Development and Initiatives presented a keynote address about the Canadian pharmacy retail giant’s plans and expansion for the sale of medical cannabis. This is the first time Shoppers Drug Mart has discussed this transformative decision publicly, and something the country – and the world – will be watching closely.
“We’re flooding Saint John with a small army of folks who are not only changing the face of cannabis, but of international business,” says Derek Riedle, Publisher of Civilized. “The fact that we can sell out an event like this speaks volumes about Saint John’s ability to compete with any place in the world. This is an industry poised for tremendous growth, and we couldn’t be happier that Saint John is playing an important role in it.”
CEO of the Saint John Chamber of Commerce David Duplisea is also on hand today as one of this year’s WCC partners. “Hosting this event in Saint John is a tremendous opportunity for our city,” he says. “We’re proud to partner with Civilized for this event as it creates a huge economic boost given that it brings 650 people here who eat at our restaurants, stay in our hotels and attend networking events happening all over the Uptown.”
Over the next two days, attendees will be making new connections, closing deals and mapping out the industry’s future, while hearing from top experts on everything from marketing and distribution challenges, to the impact of stigma, politics and corporate social responsibility.
The event is hosting over 75 speakers and wraps up tomorrow with famed media mogul and entrepreneur Martha Stewart and Founder, Chairman and Co-CEO of Canopy Growth Bruce Linton.
